What are Cloth Beeswax Wraps and Food Bags?

The result is a water resistant cloth wrap or bag that can be molded to the shape of the container or the food item you want to store. It is an earth friendly alternative to plastic cling wraps, aluminum foil, and plastic food bags. Beeswax is naturally antimicrobial, so it is ideal for storing food and keeping food fresh longer.

How do I use them?

You can use the cloth wraps and food bags to store fruit, cheese, sandwiches, bread, vegetables, and other food items. They are good to use for covering rising bread dough or fermenting food. They can also be used to cover containers like bowls, cups, plates, and utensils.

The beeswax cloth wraps and bags can be molded to the shape of the item and sealed into place by pinching or pressing them. The natural warmth of your hand softens the wax film and aids in making the sticky seal. They are insulated, breathable, and water resistant.

The cloth wraps and bags can be put inside the refrigerator and freezer. They can be used outdoors, but should not be left under direct sunlight for a long period of time.

Composition: Cotton Cloth, Food Grade Organic Beeswax, and Virgin Coconut Oil

The blend of natural ingredients is baked onto the cotton cloth.

How do I clean and store them?
Wash them before first use. Use mild soap and cold water to clean the cloth wraps and bags.

If needed, you may wipe them with a soft sponge to remove any food residue. Pat them dry with a towel for immediate use. Lay or hang dry for later use. Do not wring or dry them under the sun. Once they are dry, you can fold or roll them for storage in the cabinet or drawer.

How long do they last?
With proper care, they should last for 6 to 10 months before needing to be “refreshed”. As you use them, it is normal to see creases on the fabric.

How do I refresh the cloth wraps and bags?
To refresh the wax film on the cloth, lay the wrap or bag flat on a baking pan with baking paper underneath. Put it in the oven (160 deg. Cel.) for 2 minutes. Use a brush or foam to redistribute the melted wax. Lift immediately to air dry. It only takes a few seconds. (Use tongs or clothes pins. Be careful, it will be hot.)
If you don't have an oven, you can use 2 sheets of baking paper and an iron. Make sure the baking paper is at least 2” wider than the wrap on all sides. Place the cloth between the 2 sheets of baking paper and iron it on high, making sure to go over all areas. Peel off the cloth from the baking paper and air dry for a few seconds.

What should I not do?
Do not use the cloth wraps or bags inside the microwave or oven/toaster or use hot/warm water to wash them. The heat will melt the wax film.
Do not scrub or wring the cloth.
Do not use alcohol-based soap to clean them.
Do not use them to store raw items like meat or fish.
Do not use on hot or highly acidic food.
