You have the nursery all decorated, all your essentials for the first month are all stocked up, and you even practiced installing the infant car seat about ten times. Now it is time to prepare for your hospital delivery and labor bag.
When is the best time to pack your hospital bag?
There are different scenarios to consider on how early you should prepare your hospital or pregnancy delivery bag, do you have a smooth sailing pregnancy or are you leaning more toward the high-risk? Whatever journey you are going through, it is best to start preparing for your hospital delivery and labor bag around 32-35 weeks of your pregnancy.
Preparing and organizing early will give you more time to add, and remove the things that you will be needing during your stay in the hospital or birthing clinic. #NestTip Don't wait till the last minute (38th week) to pack your hospital bag, this way you will not experience added stress during labor.
How should I pack my delivery bag?
Think one step ahead. On the day of your labor and delivery, you need to relieve yourself of some responsibilities and focus on you and the baby. Pack your things in packing cubes or XL zipper bags and label them, it will be easier for anyone to assist you when you need to get anything from your hospital bag. #NestTip packs your outfits, and your baby's outfits and label them according to the day of use and then all extra outfits on a separate zipper bag. Here are some of our recommended zipper bags:
- Moby Extra Large Zipper Bag
- Zippies Reusable bags (they come in assorted sizes)
- Poled Baby Zipper Bag
Let's get packing!
What type of bag should you use? On the practical side using your personal travel luggage is one of our top recommendations, dad and birth partners will have an easier time rolling the luggage together with your maternity pillow, should you choose to bring one. Using a large weekened bag is also a great option, remember to keep all things together to reduce the risk of leaving something behind.
What to pack?
Packing for you, the baby and your husband or partner might seem overwhelming but don't worry The Nest APH Team did the research for you. Remember to consider what type of birth you will have when you start packing. Having a C-section delivery means packing for at least a three day stay, three sets of pajamas and a going home clothes, while giving birth a normal delivery, you hospital stay might be shorter. #NestTip prepare an extra set just incase you will need it but don't overpack
