History: One of the most widely distributed types of animal, reptiles inhabit every continent with the exception of Antarctica. However, because some reptiles are so closely related to birds (crocodiles, for example), some scientists believe that birds should be classified under the class Reptilia, which would make reptiles existent on all 7 continents.
